There has been some progress about our projects' academic appraisal.
There will be international seminar and exhibition is going to be held by Prof. Contin, in which our projects are going to shown as example and contribution in this area of archeological, metropolitan urban nodes and its design and architecture.
For this we need from every group, a slide (at most two) which shows the main idea, your groups' manifest, master plan; and from every individual a slide which shows their individual design, ideas and drawings.
Deadline is December 2nd. You can e-mail to me.

architectural landscape
Making an architectural landscape that exists of different layers which are connected to each other. While connecting the coastline, ferry station, transportation center, archeological area, museum and housing to each other, we create a new green layer that adds extra value to the surrounding. Each layer has its own speed level and is designed accordingly. So each person can choose his most convenient way to reach his destination.

FRAGMENTS

Before making any decisions about the site first we, as a group(Didem, Ezgi, Lale, Ege), try to reflect directly the situations, archetypes, typologies, events and uses as FRAGMENTS. These are the fragments we detected in 'Yenikapı' which can be used as strategic base-points, information packets that stimulates us continously while dealing with design issues.

announcement
here, this is an announcement that i d like to inform you all because, it seems that it can be an interactive and open discussion more than a passive conference. I mean, we can even discuss our pre-thoughts with him, maybe, i do not know.
The lecturer is the one of the urban planners who is currently working on the integration of Yenikapi station project to its special site.

To do list for Thursday are:
- Start to work on the strip / put your ideas on the map; and while coming to studio print out so we can discuss on paper.
- Also put / publish these on here/blog so Prof. Contin can give you critiques.
- Choose some examples of best practices related to your concept and present to us (like if you’re working on grids or diagrams, choose some projects that have been designed with the concept of grids or diagrams and try to understand their methodology)
- Put all the photographical survey works that you’ve done, on the blog.
- And sociological survey group please do not forget to upload your work on the blog.

some analysis suggestions
A proposal for YenikapiThe Yenikapi site presents some topics which could be interesting to explore and analyze to produce research and analysis material to drive on-site transformation through a planning interpretation. This could be specified by explorative design concepts which could drive the drawing up of a competition bid for the area.
fig.1_ a proposal for the coastal park (alessandro frigerio)
Among them:
_analysis of the geographical/topographical issues (i.e. existence of the Lykos river and its unperceived valley);
_ analysis of the different historical interpretations, roman and ottoman, of urban layouts and measures;
_ analysis of the infrastructural tangle;
_ analysis of the archeological, historical and landscape park;
_ analysis of reasons and modalities of the conservation of local tissues;
_ analysis of the social components settled in the area;
All these components will be studied separately, but especially in their interferences and in relation with the local values, in order to:
_ identify and structure the way of relating with the context;
_ define the general setting of the megaform linked with the infrastructural net of the stations;
_ explore the modalities of special dwellings thought for the modern nomadism which characterized and characterize even nowadays the Yenikapi area. This could contribute, in relation with the exit of the tunnel under the Bosphorus, to an innovative model of economical development for the area.
The aim of the operation is a range of projects which will be produced on the base of the considerations originated by the analysis/interpretation of the collected data; starting from three interrelated sections (topographical, archeological, technological) the projects will explore various themes as the conservation issues (Italian/Turkish point of view), the activation of archeological value, the development of the waterfront park, the proposal of a new public realm, architecture by complex shapes with an environmentally responsible approach to parametric design;.
The photographic survey will be an expression of the relation between body and space at multiple scales: form the small ergonomic one to the setting-up of the mental map to orientate at the wide scale;
1) explorative dimension of the promenade, of the vision at the speed-scale and their possible representation (dynamic of the architectural form)
2) analysis of the semiotic of the edges: street/scale/visual communication;
and will be a gaze at the socio-anthropological and cosmopolitan dimension (who inhabit what and where). Visual mapping of Istanbul and Yenikapi to look at their social evolutions and changes. (i.e. series of localized portraits, for each one of them a satellite map remind the relation people/place) The aim of the work is to hypothesize a new urbanity at the scale of the net-city = urban fabric + cosmopolitan conviviality.
